Scott Helfand Speaks at Annual FI$CA Conference PDF Print E-mail

On October 10th, Scott J. Helfand was one of two featured panel speakers for a workshop entitled Collections 101-Key Foundational Principles for Efficient and Effective Collections.  The workshop was offered as part of the Financial Services Centers of America 2014 Annual Conference & Exposition in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Mr. Helfand discussed current issues relating to limiting legal exposure in the collections process.  Among other topics, Mr. Helfand discussed the implication for credit originators of state and federal regulators’ focus on vendor management, and regulators’ efforts to extend to first-party creditors Fair Debt Collection Practices Act prohibitions traditionally imposed only on third-party collectors. Mr. Helfand also spoke at length about the intersection between technology and collections, including how creditors and debt collectors can minimize potential liability under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
